Direct combat isn’t the only way to destroy your enemies either, players can kidnap each other. Upon a successful kidnapping, the kidnappers can ransom the players guild in return for releasing them. As a player who has been kidnapped, you can also try to escape. There is a catch however, the people who kidnapped you can choose where you are released, and this can be far from home and even in the middle of an enemy fortress. An interesting concept that will cause a lot of drama between various schools.
I didn’t get a chance to ask more about the kidnapping system, but I did find out that you can be kidnapped even while you are offline. When players log off they can choose to either open a store and sell goods they have collected in the location of their choice, or take up a job. Offline players become NPCs, so you might be a fisherman or a town guard, all jobs earn you gold and skills over time. If you are kidnapped however, you won’t gain any skills or gold. Actual NPCs follow a similar system, a fisherman might be catching fish in the morning and then selling the fish at the market by evening.
