The WoW mindset, and how it's ruining AoC play for all.
You wanna know why the boards are flooded with high level content spam or spawn camping spam?
(TLDR: just read the following sentence.)
WoW has corrupted your idea of what a game is. The game is not your job, or something that requires your complete devotion and gives you nothing fun in return. It's not something you spend endless amounts of time in to get items. It's not something where you get stomped on no matter how good you are at it. It's a game. It's something you and friends can play and have fun at, and if you're good- you can be good at it too. It's a game where skill triumphs over time invested. It's a game where everyone has a fighting chance.
This isn't a race to 80. We don't need to be max level for anything. Unless you want to farm and build up your guild town or gather funds, there is simply no need. If you rush to the top level, what are you really rushing for? There is no gain or victory at 80. This is a game and it's been made for us to have fun. So why speed past all the wonderful things in this game, when you could coast through it and enjoy it for all you've paid for. I've already gotten my moneys worth in the first week of playing, and that's only because I haven't felt the need to grind to max level. There just isn't a reason to- yet. And even if there was, the best part about this game is the early stages where you enjoy the game most. The quests, the fighting, the exploring, and the massive battles that take place from time to time.
There is no catchup game you need to play with gear. There is no raid instance you need to get attuned to. You can sit back, relax, and play on your own time. You can have friends outside of the game and hang out with them, and come back where you left off. There is an abundance of PVP at your every corner, and more than enough people willing to make great brawls happen. And they do happen, everyday in almost every instance. All it needs is a spark.
With Age of Conan, you no longer have the need to farm endlessly for 'Make-or-Break-you' gear. We no longer have the need to deal with people stealing our quest mobs, or talking smack. We can kill anyone we want in this game, providing that our level difference is not too large, and we are better than them at this game. And we can just have fun.
There are no reputations to grind. No quest chains to raid 24/7 just to gain access to another raid area. Nothing of that sort. (Granted, they have to add more quests 30-50 and 50-80 range, but that will come with time)
Everyone who's played WoW who complains about this game is still stuck in the mindset that they have to reach the max level as fast as they can to experience and enjoy end game. That they have to gear up and be the best to be recognized for their ability. But that's the thing. The game was made to be enjoyed. The 5 year development? I can see why it took that long to make it. Have you seen the world in max settings? It's gorgeous. I even rolled a second character to walk through it all again- and I've found that I enjoy playing my alt MORE than my main. I didn't even EXPECT to feel that way, but playing another class changed my perspective in so many ways. What we see of other classes is only the player bringing out his class to his best potential at his level, but what we don't see is all the tools and skills that player isn't using, that might entice you to try playing that class.
My point is this: You shouldn't play this, or any game with such haste. This game has much more to offer than simple end game content. I've already dubbed it as one of the greatest games made so far based on what I've experienced, and I haven't even felt the need to see higher level content, because I'm just having too much fun not having to rush.
This is the golden game of the era, boys. It's not the game makers fault if you don't know how play and enjoy a game. It's your character, and it's up to you, whether you want to have fun or not.
