So, I have Mass Effect 1 and 2 on Steam, and it's known that you can activate your EA games from Steam on Origin. So, I'm like "Well, let's give Origin a shot, I have a few games on an Origin account anyway"
I try the ME1 key a few times on the Origin program, nothing happens. I find a product activation key page, and successfully activate Mass Effect. It asks me to create a third ID to tie to my EA account, and says I just need to download EADM to get it. I look in my Origin library, and it's not there. So, I do live chat for help:

If you read the End User License Agreement for Origin it states that by installing Origin you're giving EA the right to monitor your PC and to make a profile of you, including what programs you have installed (and whether you have any illegally downloaded material), what websites you use, etc., and that EA reserves the right to share or sell this information to third parties.

Iskreno, sad prvi put cujem za taj Origin, ne znam ni sto je to, ali znam da se klonim EA-ovih proizvoda.

Origin ti je EA-ov Steam. EA je počeo povlačiti igre sa Steama i forsirati igrače time da njihove (s)hitove kupuju isključivo preko njihovog servisa. Npr. Battlefield 3 moš preorderat samo preko Origina.

Osim toga, ako ne igraš niš dvije godine, ukidaju ti acc.

Uh, dobro da sam došao ovdje i pročitao ovo, inače bi slijepo prihvatio ToA i instalirao ovaj spyware na moj komp.

Danas na temelju dostupnih podataka (samo onih javnih primjerice) netko kome to treba može napraviti u sitne detalje vaš profil - od onih osnovnih podataka, preko hobija pa do toga gdje ste jučer ručali (ovo je moj profesor s faksa dokazao). Ukoliko mislite da EA ovo jedini radi, jako krivo mislite. Ne opravdavam EA, no od svojevrsnog monitoringa danas se praktički nemoguće zaštiti.

I da, znači da nitko na ovom forumu ne bude igrao Battlefield 3?
Pošto će igra zahtijevati obvezno korištenje origin accounta...

Iako, pomalo me zabrinjava sto ce Origin biti tako invazivna aplikacija.

Osobno sam aplikaciju isprobao da vidim koje sve opcije nudi, no daleko je to od mogućnosti Steama. S druge strane je pozitivno da Valve dobije nekakvu konkurenciju, kakva god ona bila. Sad kada izađe B3, Origin će početi koristiti masa ljudi.

Ja bih prije rekao da se EA marketinski tim juce rodio
Da se razumijemo, sve ovo sto EA radi s Originom radi i Valve sa Steamom samo sto kod jednih treba citati izmedju redova dok je to EA valjda odlucila plasirati kao promidzbu lol.

Ali eto Valve ima dugogodisnju reputaciju i jak fanbase kod gamera pa makar cekali HL2 Ep3 jos deset godina dok ce EA uvijek biti materijal za bacanje drvlja i kamenja.
Doduse Valveov odlican customer support i hrpa dobrog viralnog marketinga ih je dovela do te tocke dok je EA imala par primjetnih greskama u pocetkim koracima. Al znas kako kazu, prvi utisak je nekad najbitniji (bez obzira sta kasnije radio)

Na kraju krajeva ljudi će svejedno koristiti Origin (a i ja ću dakako jer ne mislim zbog aplikacije propustiti The Old Republic), a sad će se barem jedno tjedan dana još pričati o Originu. Ja uvijek kažem da je negativan marketing, dobar marketing.
Čitao sam baš komentare na Gameinformeru na ovu vijest i ono, ljudi masovno bičaju po EA-u i hvala Valve, a Valve cijelo vrijeme radi istu stvar.

A možda i ne budem trebao koristiti Origin

Na kraju krajeva, mene ne smeta toliko nametljiv klijent, nego više onaj dio gdje mi EA može ukinuti račun nakon dvije godine nekorištenja.

Ima razlika između Valveovog i EA-ovog profiliranja. Valveovo je anonimno i nije toliko invazivno dok EA želi prodavat vaš profil oglašivačima.

Actually, Steam is different. According to Steam's EULA, you don't agree to as much, and it is much less vague. Steam is very specific in what sort of information you let them use - your gameplay stats, forum info, an anything you voluntarily put on your profile. It doesn't include anything about your internet browsing habits or what software is on your PC.

Steam does do a hardware survey, but they don't sell that information. It's publicly available http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey, the data is collected anonymously, and you can opt out of it.

Origin doesn't let you opt out of this, it's tied to your account so they can market to you, and then they sell this information to 3rd parties.

There is a big difference.

It makes sense that a publisher would want to know this information, and it's good for developers to know what kind of hardware people have. But don't sell it, and don't force me to be a part of it.

We never did hear back from EA about the Origin EULA thing, but Giant Bomb have noticed that the EULA has been substantially redrafted to sound less sinister.SThe new EULA is a bit more of protestation of innocence than the original legalese: “EA knows that you care how information about you is collected, used and shared, and we appreciate your trust that we will do so carefully and sensibly. Information about our customers is an important part of our business, and EA would never sell your personally identifiable information to anyone, nor would it ever use spyware or install spyware on users’ machines.” It does seem like the rest of EULA means you are still basically agreeing to the same thing, however.

Kad napraviš Facebook account ne moraš dati ni trunku osobnih informacija. Hell, ne moraš ni koristiti vlastito ime. Naravno, uvijek ima i takvih koji vole da cijeli svijet može znati gdje su ručali jučer, ali možeš praktički koristiti i facebook i druge internetske servise tako da daješ informacije o sebi koje želiš da se znaju. S druge strane, kad instaliraš ovako nešto prisiljen si davati osobne informacije.
